Srisailam Goud to join YSRC

March 22, 2013 12:31 pm | Updated 12:31 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Independent MLA from Qutbullapur, Kuna Srisailam Goud, is all set to join the YSR Congress.

Mr. Goud, presently an associate member of the Congress Legislature Party, plans to meet YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in Chanchalguda prison on Friday morning.

According to sources, Mr. Goud who won the Qutbullapur seat as a Congress rebel in the 2009 Assembly elections was almost ready to join YSRC two months ago.

There was some delay on account of a statement made by Union Home Minister S.K. Shinde that the Centre would announce its decision on Telangana in a month. Owing to that statement, some MLAs keen on joining the YSRC from the twin cities had deferred their plans. The Congress is already facing rebel trouble with as many as nine MLAs defying the party whip during the no confidence motion last week.

The Congress’ strength in the 294 member House has now come down to 146 from 156, including the independent member.

All the YSRC MLAs will go to Guntur on March 24 to participate in the ongoing ‘Maro Praja Prasthanam’ of Sharmila to mark completion of 100 days of her padayatra.
