Anam Vijayakumar Reddy, brother of senior leader Anam Vivekananda Reddy, sprang a surprise by joining the YSR Congress on Thursday.

The split in the Anam family caused a stir in the political circles.

Expressing differences with his brothers over certain issues, Mr. Vijayakumar Reddy said that he would never forget the support the Anam family had received when Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister.

“Our family derived political benefits when Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister,” he added.

Stating that it was not correct to forget the former Chief Minister’s gesture, Mr. Vijayakumar Reddy said that he would wholeheartedly strive to strengthen the YSR Congress in Nellore Assembly segments.

Ever since Anam Vivekananda Reddy and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy jointed the TDP, the YSR Congress has been trying to rope in Mr. Vijayakumar Reddy into its fold considering his strong connections with the voters in a few segments.

It may be recalled that Anam Jayakumar Reddy, the fourth of the Anam brothers, broke away from the family long time ago and joined the TDP during elections.

He continues to be active in the ruling party.

Mr. Vijayakumar Reddy has been strongly voicing his support for the YSR Congress considering the long standing association of his family with the former Chief Minister and his family members.

In the last few weeks, all the seven MLAs of the YSR Congress in Nellore district called on Mr. Vijayakumar Reddy at his residence and welcomed him into the party.

MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy’s brother and former MLA Chandrasekhara Reddy too requested Mr. Vijayakumar Reddy to join the YSR Congress.

During a meeting with his followers at his native village Chintareddypalem on the outskirts of Nellore, Mr. Vijayakumar Reddy said that he was overwhelmed by the support being extended to him by the YSR Congress leadership.
