A day after polling is over for the municipal elections, the political circles are agog with speculations over the winning chances of different parties in the Nellore Municipal Corporation and the six municipalities in the district.
The opinion is divided between the YSR Congress and the Telugu Desam Party while the Congress name is coming up in a handful of divisions or wards where important personalities have entered the election fray.
In the Nellore Municipal Corporation, there are mixed calculations that the YSRC and the TDP may get in the range of 22 to 24 divisions out of the total 54. Both the parties might have to depend eventually on outside support for electing the mayoral candidate.
Some are expressing the view that the YSRC might single-handedly get 26 to 29 divisions thus getting a chance to elect its Mayor candidate directly or with support from one or two independents.
There is also speculation that in the event of TDP and YSRC getting below 25 divisions each, the TDP will have greater chances of electing the Mayor with support from other parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.
The Congress party, which initially sounded confident of winning eight to ten divisions, now appears having lost that strength and it may end up with two divisions in its fold.
Nellore Rural MLA Anam Vivekanananda Reddy’s son Rangamayur Reddy and his close associate Pindi Suresh are the two contestants who stand better chances of a win in the election. In all other divisions, where the Congress put its candidates, they are not able to give even a reasonable fight to other contestants.
