Special status: CPI burns effigy of Modi

March 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KAKINADA:

Demanding that special status must be accorded to Andhra Pradesh without further delay, activists of the Communist Party of India’s (CPI), East Godavari district unit, staged an agitation and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kalpana Theatre centre here on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, they took out a procession from the party office to the centre. Addressing the activists, CPI district unit secretary Tatipaka Madhu alleged that the BJP was adopting a double speak approach on according special category status to AP.

“Prior to the polls, the BJP leaders had promised special status, but now they have almost made it clear that it is not possible. We will continue our agitation, till the special status is accorded,” he said.
