Congress leaders and activists took out a rally in support of their demand for Special Category Status (SCS) considering the necessity for the Centre to give a helping hand to the State in its hour of need.

The rally was taken out from Indira Bhavan near Vijayamahal Gate here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Nellore District Congress Committee president Panabaka Krishnaiah said that their party would continue to intensify stir till the Centre fulfil the promise with regard to the SCS issue.

Mr. Krishnaiah asserted that the State would witness rapid growth and industrial development if SCS was granted.

Rajamahendravaram Special Correspondent adds:

Rajamahendravaram (Rural) MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary strongly criticised the BJP for not respecting sentiments of people of the State over Special Category Status (SCS). Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he dared the State BJP leaders to resign and fight for the SCS.

Kakinada Staff Reporters adds:

Demanding that the SCS be accorded to the State without fail, speakers at a roundtable organised here on Friday said that overall development of the State was possible only with the SCS. It was presided over by B. Aseervadam, convener of the Joint Action Committee of employees, workers and teachers.

DCC president Kandula Durgesh and district president of the YSRC K. Kanna Babu lambasted the BJP-led NDA government on the issue and accused the TDP of failing to protect the interests of the State.

Chairman of the Cocanada Chamber of Commerce Dantu Surya Rao said that the AP Reorganisation Act was not clear on the SCS and that was the reason why the Centre remained non-committal over the issue.
