South Central Railway bags record 7 awards

South Central Railway (SCR) bagged a record seven National Energy Conservation Awards for the year 2014-15 given by the Union Ministry of Power. It is for the first time that the SCR has won seven awards in one year, of a total of 24 received by the Indian Railways.

Union Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal presented the awards, including the first prize shield in office buildings sector, to the Centralised Training Academy for Railway Accounts – C-TARA, Secunderabad – to SCR General Manager Ravindra Gupta at a special function held in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The award to C-TARA is for registering 24.75 per cent savings in the consumption of electrical energy last year when compared to the previous year – 2013-14. The SCR also won the second prize in general category sector awarded to Kazipet pump house.

Last year, SCR had saved 8.56 lakh units of electricity amounting to Rs. 68.91 lakh by implementing various energy conservation measures like use of renewal energy source (solar energy) at railway stations, service buildings/ pumps etc; use of star labelled electrical equipment, LED-based lighting, energy efficient pumps, automation of pumps, energy efficient/ lower wattage fittings.
