Smart village: officials hard at it for optimum result

March 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - NELLORE:

With the government keen on developing amenities under the ‘smart village’ concept, officials are taking steps to ensure optimum result in villages adopted by celebrities and various organisations.

According to the district administration, a number of people, including NRIs, have come forward, expressing willingness to adopt and fund villages under the ‘smart ward’ concept. “NRIs are coming forward in considerable numbers to take part in this process of development. We should take their help and bring optimum result,” District Collector M. Janaki said.

The district administration has decided to conduct weekly review meetings on the progress of works. Joint Collector Imtiyaz Ahmed has been made coordinator of works taken up at Puttamraju Kandriga, which was adopted by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. The village had hit headlines following his visit to inaugurate the works there.

Apart from ensuring progress in the existing villages, district officials are focusing on proposals made by NGOs and NRIs on development works.
