Service tax collection touches Rs. 315 cr. in Nellore district

The overall service tax collection in Nellore district has reached Rs. 315 crore for the year 2015-16 as against Rs. 298 crore during the previous 2014-15 financial year.

This comes to nearly 5 per cent growth rate with the officials expecting better results considering the fast-paced industrialisation and location of Nellore region on the two important corridors--Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor and the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor.

Krishnapatnam Port

Sk. Rahman, commissioner of customs, central excise and service tax, Nellore, said that the Krishnapatnam Port continued to be the major contributor of service tax to the tune of Rs. 176 crore followed by SV Engineering Constructions with Rs. 26 cr., GRN Construction with Rs. 17 cr. and Narayana Learning Pvt Ltd with Rs. 8 crore.

There is a huge potential in Nellore district with many contractors, infrastructure and road development companies, coaching centre chains, construction companies hailing from the district.

Mr. Rahman, who inaugurated the new premises of the Service Tax Division in Nellore here on Monday told the reporters that several steps were taken to make tax collections trade-friendly in tune with the spirit of ‘minimum government and maximum governance’.
