Union Ministers from the Seemandhra region have fallen hook, line and sinker for their party high command’s bait and dropped their plans to resign. They, instead, are focusing their attention on bargaining for a better deal for the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.
One after the other, the Union Ministers are singing the high command’s tune and putting on the backburner their fight against the division of the State. Their statements in the last couple of days explain their helplessness in fighting against the high command decision on division. As against their aggressive posture earlier, they now appear in a conciliatory mood as the Centre has constituted Group of Ministers to address the issues that need resolution.
In tune with the terms of reference, they are reportedly preparing a report seeking a fair deal for their region. They are meeting in New Delhi on Thursday ahead of the GoM holding deliberations on October 19. Strong integrationists like D. Purandeswari, M.M. Pallam Raju and K. Chiranjeevi are giving the impression that all is lost as the central leadership is bent upon implementing its decision. Apart from the above three, Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy had submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister.
Though they told the Prime Minister that they would not attend duties and were firm on quitting their posts, there has been little progress on this front.
Curiously enough, K. S. Rao, a strong votary of a united AP, after vociferously opposing the note on bifurcation at the Cabinet meeting, has not resigned. Union Ministers K. C. Deo, Killi Kruparani, Panabaka Lakshmi and J. D. Seelam have ignored the demands of their constituents to resign. Instead, they are talking about abiding by the high command decision. Knowing well their precarious position in their constituencies, these leaders are now trying to get a fair deal for the people and regain their hold amid unprecedented resentment against the Congress leadership.
