October 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Congress party has come down heavily on the Telangana government’s move to sell seed to the farming community at higher rates when the ryots are faced with drought.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Dasoju Shravan at a press conference here on Sunday lashed out at the government move, which he termed as playing it into the hands of seed companies. He wondered how will the government help farmers by asking private seed companies to adopt one mandal each.

“Is it not a way of handing over the future of farmers to these seed processing companies,” he said, adding that these would force the farmers to be at the mercy of these companies. He sought to know how the government planned to tackle the menace of spurious and inferior quality seed.

Poser on encounter

Mr. Shravan made light of the claim by the Information Technology Minister that the TRS government is against encounters.

He said the government owes an answer for the recent encounter in Warangal, in which two Maoist were killed.
