Contract sanitary workers, whose indefinite strike entered the 14th day on Thursday, demonstrated with fetters to protest the arrest of comrades.

Workers led by Andhra Pradesh Municipal Workers and Employees Union state secretary K. Samrajyam chained their hands and took out a protest march, shouting slogans against the ''dictatorial attitude'' of the Chandrababu Naidu government which has said it would stand tough.

Upset with the State Cabinet for turning down their demand for a decent wage hike, Centre of Indian Trade Unions city secretary B. Venkata Rao said, ''The workers will continue their stir till their main demand of a wage hike is met.''

Earlier in the day, APMWEU leader P. Srinivasulu and another worker were taken into custody near the Addanki bus stand centre for obstructing temporary workers to clear garbage that had accumulated on the arterial Kurnool Road.

The strike has had a telling effect on sanitation in the city and seven other urban civic bodies in the district.
