Safety consultant for metro rail chosen

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMR) has selected a Spanish consultancy firm, Eptisa Servicios de Ingenieria as the safety consultant for the elevated project through international competitive bidding.

Combined score

Based on the combined technical and financial score, Eptisa Ingenieria with an Rs.1.30 crore has been selected while Bureau Veritas, a French consultancy firm, which quoted Rs.1.48 crore stood second in the combined score.

The consultant was selected by HMR Tender Committee for major works headed by HMR MD N.V.S.Reddy and other members like A.P. Road Development Corporation MD B. Rajagopal Reddy, HMDA Chief Engineer Madhwa Raj, APCPDCL CGM (Finance) K.Premananda Rao and HMR Chief Engineer Md.Ziauddin.

The consultant will carry out safety audit of the designs, drawings, design basis reports and other documents prepared by the Concessionaire L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (L&TMRHL) and its consultants.

The safety aspects of the elevated tracks, rail alignment, stations and other components of the metro rail will be audited by it.

Safety audit

The initial safety audit is confined to the design stage of the project and the safety-related measures and other recommendations made by the consultant will be incorporated in the designs by L&TMRHL under the technical supervision of M/s. Louis Berger, the Independent Engineer for the project.

This exercise will be completed in three months in parallel processing mode. L&TMRHL has also engaged UK-based Halcro as its internal safety assessor for carrying out independent safety checks.

‘Start the work'

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary and HMR Chairman Pankaj Dwivedi on reviewing the progress of designs and drawings of the project directed L&TMRHL Managing Director V.B. Gadgil and HMR Managing Director N.V.S.Reddy to start pier (pillar) construction activity in Nagole-Mettuguda stretch (8 km) of Line three – Shilparamam to Nagole as soon as possible.
