The proposed visit of Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu to Prakasam district on Saturday has raised hopes among ryots who been waiting for seven years for the completion of the feeder channels for the Rs. 600-crore Kandula Obul Reddy Gundlakamma reservoir.
Farmers in the drought-prone district are unable to fully realise the benefits from the reservoir completed in 2008 to ensure irrigation water for 42,000 acres during kharif and another 80,000 acres in rabi. The Chief Minister should allocate Rs 50 crore to take up the pending lining works on canals and complete field channels to ensure water for crops , said AP Rythu Sangam district Secretary D.Gopinath.
Upset with budgetary allocation of a mere Rs 150 crore for the Veligonda project, All India Kisan Sabha district secretary K.V.V.Prasad said the government must sanction at least Rs. 1,600 crore to complete it to irrigate 4.5 lakh acres and provide drinking water supply to 15.25 lakh people in fluoride-hit areas.
