Ryots lay siege to SBI branch

December 22, 2014 10:37 pm | Updated 10:37 pm IST - ONGOLE:

Tenant farmers uncovered by the loan waiver scheme laid a siege to the State Bank of India branch at J.Pangalur in Prakasam district on Monday.

Shocked over their names missing from the list of beneficiaries, the ryots led by Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangam district Secretary D.Gopinath squatted in-front of the bank premises and tried to barge into it.

The ryots blocked vehicular traffic on the Muppavaram-Inkollu road for some time to press their demand.

Police intervened and arranged for a meeting with Mandal Revenue Officer D.Nirmala who suggested that the farmers submit petitions before the village revenue officers concerned from Tuesday for redressal of their grievances. She promised to include their names in the second list. Following this, they lifted the stir.

Ryots staged demonstrations also in-front of MRO offices at S.N.Padu, Chimakurthi, Chinnaganjam, Nagulapupadu, Inkollu, Maddipadu, Parchur, Karamchedu and Martur to press for waiver of the entire amount irrespective of the scale of finance for those who had got up to rs 50,000 as loan and provide them fresh loans for Rabi crop cultivation.
