The Centre has agreed to provide a special financial support of Rs. 1,500 crore for the setting up of Andhra Pradesh’s new capital, including Rs. 500 crore to be spent exclusively on the construction of Raj Bhavan, the State Secretariat, the State Assembly and the High Court.
“In consonance with Section 94(3) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, the Government of India has agreed to provide special financial support for essential facilities for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh... Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance, Government of India has approved Rs. 1,500 crore by way of budgetary support for providing support to new capital of Andhra Pradesh,” an official release said.
Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, the former capital of Hyderabad will go to the newly-created Telangana State. The blueprint for Andhra Pradesh’s new capital city is being developed by Singapore under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in December 2014. It is likely to be built over 10 years.
Singapore has completed and delivered on schedule the first phase of the master plan the new capital city. Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran presented the phase I master plan to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday. Mr. Naidu is on a two-day visit to Singapore.
