Expert team inspects progress of works at Polavaram

Minister for Water Resources Management Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has said the government will submit the R&R details to the Polavaram Project Authority soon and it will be discussed along with other issues at a meeting with the Dam Design Review Committee.

Addressing the media after the visit of the four-member expert team from the National Hydro Power Corporation that inspected the progress of the works here on Friday, the Minister said the government had spent ₹7,471 crore on the project till date. The Union government had reimbursed ₹4,329 crore and announced sanction of another ₹318 crore, he said, and added that it was yet to reimburse ₹2,884 crore.

Stating that ₹2,934 crore had been spent on land acquisition and R&R package, the Minister said that bills of ₹2,544 crore would be submitted to the Centre through the Pay and Accounts wing of the Water Resources Department. Explaining that 4.38 lakh cubic metres of concrete work had been completed on the spill channel, he said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would visit project site on December 11. Earlier, the Minister, along with Engineer-in-Chief M. Venkateswara Rao and Chief Engineer Ramesh Babu, explained the progress of works to the team members, who inspected the concrete mixing unit, diaphragm wall, spillway and cofferdam works. The team also inspected the work on the radial gates.
