Row over damage to building

August 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 11:50 am IST - CHITTOOR:

Organisers of Chittoor-based Sripuram Venkatraya Chetty Charitable Trust on Sunday said that a trader had illegally occupied a building belonging to the Trust at Bazaar Street in Chittoor town, and had been enjoying the property for the last four decades.

Addressing a press meet here, about 20 family members administering the Trust said that as per the instructions of the Municipal Corporation authorities in public interest, steps were initiated to demolish the old and dilapidated structures of the Trust.

In this process, while demolishing a structure, the adjoining old building allegedly occupied by trader Ayyappa Setty also suffered damage.

The Sripuram family members said that Mr. Setty was deliberately spreading falsehood against their trust, saying that his house was bulldozed and the inmates were subjected to forceful eviction.

Meanwhile, Mr. Setty, claiming rights over the damaged house, said that he and his family members were dragged out before commencing the demolition. He said that he had approached senior police officials for action.
