Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Thursday invited President Pratibha Patil to grace either the inaugural or the valedictory function of celebrations organised to mark 500th year of coronation of Vijayanagara ruler Sri Krishnadevaraya.

In a letter to the President, Rosaiah informed that the Andhra Pradesh government was celebrating the event beginning with the inaugural in Hyderabad on July 5.

“During his rule (1509-1529), Sri Krishnadevaraya encouraged and patronised the development of Telugu language, art, sculpture and culture. Some of the major irrigation tanks constructed by him are available even today and he is remembered by the people even after 500 years,” Rosaiah pointed out.

Sri Krishnadevaraya’s “Amuktamalyada” was a grand Telugu epic depicting the rich culture, literary traditions and life of the Telugus those days. The State government was, hence, celebrating the occasion in a very grand manner, the Chief Minister said, inviting the President to attend the inaugural function or the concluding ceremony to be held in Penukonda in Anantapur district on August 8.
