Police on Thursday arrested a Registered Medical Practitioner Avula Rajkumar alias Tejarshi (29) of Pagidyala in Nandikotkur mandal of the district, who allegedly befriended girls on the Facebook and Whatsapp, and extorted money and gold ornaments from them.
Twenty tolas of gold ornaments, a car, and three cell phones were seized from the accused.
Rajkumar allegedly used to chat with girls on the social media.
He used to offer them financial assistance and jobs in his hospital and call them to lodges, where he allegedly blackmailed them by taking their nude pictures and threatening to post them on the social media, Kurnool SP A. Ravikrishna told the media here.
A girl from Secunderabad and another from Guntur, who were allegedly blackmailed by the accused, filed complaints in the Kurnool III Town police station.
Kurnool DSP D.V. Ramana Murthy, III Town Circle Inspector G. Madhusudana Rao arrested Rajkumar near Nandyal check-post and recovered the gold ornaments of the girls, which he mortgaged with a finance company in Kurnool and Nandyal, the SP said.
He lauded the DSP, inspector and sub-inspector Maruthi Sankar and staff for arresting the RMP in the cyber crime case.
