After an academic year filled with class work, labs and record works, engineering students enjoyed a daylong break to set the stage on fire with their performances during ‘Prism-2014’, a mega cultural event organised by the Pragati Engineering College here on Sunday. Songs and dances of both classical and modern variety entertained the audience while short films presented by the students on contemporary issues showcased their technical skills and their social awareness as well.
Senior scientist and Padmasree awardee from the ISRO M.Y.S. Prasad, who was the chief guest of the function, presented gold medals and cash awards to the students who excelled in academics. Speaking on the occasion, he advised the students to give top priority to classical music and dance during their performances. He said that students must give equal importance to extra-curricular activities on a par with their academics. “Your overall development makes you stand ahead of others in your future endeavour,” he said.
DonationProfessor S.V. Ramana Murthy announced a donation of Rs. 1 lakh in memory of his father Saripalli Srirama Murthy and wanted the college management to present best teacher award every year on Teachers Day. College principal S. Sambhu Prasad listed out various achievements of the college students in the last one year, while chairman Paruchuri Krishna Rao said that the college presented merit scholarships worth Rs. 32 lakh to the students in the last academic year. Directors M.V. Haranatha Babu, and G. Raghuram were present.
