Parvathipuram II Additional Judicial Magistrate has sentenced four persons to undergo rigorous life imprisonment and fined Rs. 1,500 each in connection with the murder of Sunkari Eswara Rao of Pachipenta on March 7, 2011. According to the prosecution press release, following a tip off, Excise sleuths led by SI Pinninti Srinivasa Rao raided an illicit liquor brewing den at Adarivalasa of Pachipenta mandal at around 9 a.m. on that day and destroyed 50 litres of illicit liquor and five pots containing ‘maddikallu’ (an intoxicant).

While the sleuths were making inquiries about the persons involved in the illicit liquor trade, a mob of men and women gathered and pelted stones at the Excise team, causing bleeding injuries to them. When they sped away in their vehicle, the furious mob branded Eswara Rao, a physically challenged person, an informer and assaulted him with sticks and stones, resulting in his death.

On a complaint by SI (Excise) Srinivasa Rao at Pachipenta police station, then SI M.V. Prabhakar Rao registered a case of murder against the accused. During investigation, M. Butchi Raju, former CI of Salur, zeroed in on the four persons — Jalli Seethaiah, Erganni Narasayya, Regiboyina Chandrayya, and Jalli Raju — and arrested them.
