March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - KADAPA:

Relay hunger strike will be launched in Kadapa from March 3 to pressurise the State government to establish Urdu University in Kadapa, leaders of several political parties announced in a demonstration before Kadapa Collectorate on Monday.

Kadapa Mayor K. Suresh Babu, Kadapa MLA S.B. Amjath Basha, both of YSRC, Kadapa DCC president Shaik Nazeer Ahmed, CPI(M) district secretary K. Anjaneyulu, CPI leader L. Nagasubba Reddy, MIM district president Ali, Insaf president K.C. Badulla, Imams of some mosques and Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu district president Moulana Mustafa Hussaini Bukhari staged a demonstration before the Kadapa Collectorate on Monday demanding that the university be set up in Kadapa.

Recalling that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu promised in the last Assembly session to set up the university in Kadapa, they resented his plans to establish it in Kurnool.

They charged Mr. Naidu with trying to rake up inter-district conflict and gain mileage.

The Chief Minister was neglecting the backward Kadapa district and looking down upon the Muslim minorities, they alleged. Kadapa which was equidistant from the four districts of Rayalaseema as well as Ongole and Nellore was an ideal location, they said.

They submitted a memorandum to Kadapa Collector K.V. Ramana.
