Four members of a red sanders smuggling gang, allegedly belonging to Tamil Nadu, abducted one person and created tension in Vinnamala village near Nayudupeta near here on Sunday night.

The gangsters attacked and caused knife injury to the abducted person Bala Subrahmanyam, who belongs to Puttur in Chittoor District. They were reportedly angry with him over the missing of some red wood logs which were hidden in a dump near Nayudupeta town.

Sources said that the gang brought Subrahmanyam in a car and attacked him after he refused to give them money as compensation for the stolen red sander logs. An injured Subrahmanyam escaped from the car and ran into the nearby Vinnamala village.

Following information provided by the local people, the police arrived at the spot and launched search for the red sander gangsters. One gang member has been taken into custody.
