Record statements of accused, police told

April 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MACHILIPATNAM:

Senior Civil Judge G. Ram Gopal on Saturday said that police officers should record the statement of the accused and witnesses in the case to ensure transparent investigation.

Addressing the SIs and Child Welfare Officers at a training programme on juvenile jurisprudence here, he said that the investigation officers were deliberately avoiding recording the statements of the accused and witnesses, leading to improper investigation.

Krishna District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted the programme and Tenth Additional District Judge G. Swanalatha inaugurated it at the District Court Buildings. On implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act 2000 and Amendment Act 2006, Mr. Ram Gopal said children accused in various cases needed to be treated as victims rather than offenders. Child Rights Advocacy Foundation activist Joseph Fracis Thambi explained about the officers’ role in promising security of the juvenile during the interrogation period.
