: The government has no objection in going for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the brutal murder of security personnel K. Chandrabose at Puzhakkal in Thrissur if the demand comes from his relatives, Minister for Home and Vigilance Ramesh Chennithala has said.

Replying to a submission by P.A. Madhavan in the Assembly on Wednesday for a CBI probe into the murder, Mr. Chennithala said the police investigation was going on “smoothly and without any interference from any quarters.”

“The government has nothing to hide in this case and the aim is to ensure that the accused, Muhammed Nisham, gets the maximum sentence. There is no need to score political points,” the Home Minister said.

The media should refrain from projecting controversies surrounding the accused. Mr. Chennithala assured the House that the government would hand over the case to the CBI if the relatives of the deceased demanded so. The Home Minister detailed the various steps taken by the government for a speedy and transparent inquiry by the police into all aspects of the case.
