The multi-crore Gandikota rehabilitation package scam in Kadapa district is likely to be entrusted to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a comprehensive inquiry, and the State government has ordered the suspension of Jammalamadugu RDO M.R. Vinayakam in connection with the case. District Collector T. Babu Rao Naidu served a show-cause notice on Mr. Vinayakam following charges of irregularities in the disbursal of the rehabilitation package in the name of fictitious beneficiaries.

Basing on an inquiry report submitted by Joint Collector II Siva Reddy, the Collector issued orders surrendering the services of the RDO to the government.

Special teams had seized all the records pertaining to the ₹479 crore rehabilitation package sanctioned to 9,098 displaced families under the Gandikota project and submitted a report to the government in August last week.

Details of ineligible beneficiaries given cheques in Gandlur, Chowtapalli, Muchumarri, Bommepalli, Obannapet, Gangapuram, and other submersible villages under the project and instances of cheques given to non-residents, children recorded as adults, and spinsters shown as married were incorporated in the inquiry report.

The report suggested invoking of the Revenue Recovery Act and filing of criminal cases against ineligible beneficiaries who received compensation cheques.

In the wake of the scam, disbursal of cheques to the tune of ₹5 crore was stopped.

More heads are likely to roll in the Revenue Department.
