The Government Railway Police on Monday slapped cases under SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Ponnur MLA Dhullipalla Narendra Kumar and nine others in the case relating to a suicide of president of Chintalapudi Cooperative Society K. Gandhi.

Mr. Gandhi was found dead in suspicious circumstances on the railway tracks at Machavaram village near Bapatla.

He was facing an inquiry over allegations of misappropriation of funds and a case had been registered against him.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Sunitha, wife of Mr. Gandhi, the GRP police registered the cases. Police also registered cases under section 306 IPC (Abetment to suicide) against the MLA.

DSP (Railways) R. Vijaya Paul said the body of Mr. Gandhi was handed over to his family members after post-mortem at Bapatla Area Hospital.

The case would be handed over to the Ponnur rural police station. Sources said that the investigation has been hampered as the family members took the body away from the railway tracks.
