A private engineering college student from city ended his life, reportedly dejected over ragging by seniors, by jumping before a running train at Vaddepally in Warangal District on Monday night, the police said on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Vadlakonda Sainath of Ramakrishnapuram in Adilabad District. He was studying in CMR college at Medchal on Hyderabad outskirts, the Warangal Railway Police Inspector Madhusudhan told The Hindu.

A suicide note purportedly written by Sainath was recovered by the railway police from his backpack. “Please stop the ragging …... I would not have reached this situation had the seniors not done like that,” the note stated.

According to the Inspector, Saianth wearing a backpack came to the railway track at Vaddepalli near Kagaznagar and committed suicide on Monday night. Passers-by saw the body at around 11.40 p.m. and alerted the police.

Police shifted the body to MGM Hospital in Warangal after his parents arrived at the spot and identified their ward. Meanwhile, the Cyberabad police started verifying with the college management in Medchal about the reasons behind the student’s suicide.

“We’re checking with the college in Medchal if any ragging incidents were reported earlier. Criminal action would be initiated after ascertaining facts and speaking with the student’s family,” Petbasheeerabad ACP Ashok said.
