Pushkaram stampede: panel holds hearing

June 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:26 pm IST - RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM:

The one-man commission, headed by C.Y. Somayajulu, to inquire into the stampede that took place on the first day of the Godavari Maha Pushkaralu here on July 14 last year, conducted an inquiry at the R&B guesthouse here on Friday.

Representatives of different political parties Undavilli Arun Kumar, Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi and Nalla Rama Rao and advocate Muppalla Subba Rao sought the cross-examination of the District Collector and other officials to know more details about the circumstances that led to the death of 27 pilgrims. Government advocate Ch. Prabhakara Rao, however, argued that there was no need of such a cross-examination.

The chairman adjourned the proceedings to June 14 from 11 a.m. onwards at the same venue.
