The Animal Husbandry Department on Monday launched Brucella vaccination drive under the Progeny Testing Programme.
Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) M. Srinivasa Rao and Regional Coordinator Dr Shaik Aseef formally inaugurated the vaccination drive to the female calves at Venkatapuram of Gangadhara Nellore mandal, 15 km from here.
The officials said that Brucellosis disease among cattle would prove fatal, with high risk factors of abortions at the later stage. “The disease will infect human beings, leading to abortions among pregnant women, and impotency among men,” they said.
More than 30,000 female calves will be given the vaccination in the district, covering 26 mandals. Interacting with dairy farmers, Dr. Rao said that they should not neglect administrating vaccines to their livestock.
