The political circles in the district are abuzz with the team members of election strategist Prashant Kishor plunging into action soon after the conclusion of the YSR Congress national plenary here on July 10.

Two members of the team have been touring various constituencies in the district, which is considered key to the fortunes of the YSR Congress.

Performance survey

The team members, apart from conducting a survey on the performance of the TDP government, are also taking feedback on the performance of constituency in charges over the last two-and-a-half years.

They are also meeting local party leaders and are expected to be present in the district for the next few months.

The YSRC had won five and lost seven Assembly seats during the general elections in 2014. The party’s candidates had lost by narrow margins in Sattenapalli, Vemuru and Prathipadu Assembly seats, but its candidates were no match to the TDP in the urban constituencies such as Guntur and Tenali. The party had also lost three Lok Sabha seats.

Selection criterion

The leadership is also learnt to have decided that selection of the candidates would be based strictly on their winning probability.

The TDP too is gearing up with its survey teams. Party national general secretary and Minister for IT N. Lokesh has constituted a team at the State party office. The team, apart from scanning news reports, is sending a feedback on the local MLAs.
