Prakasam will get 2.5 tmcft Krishna water, says Sidda

As the drinking water crisis deepened further in Prakasam, Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao on Friday announced that the district would get 2.5 tmc ft of Krishna water in a couple of days.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that, “A GO has been issued for release of 2.5 tmc ft each for Guntur and Prakasam districts. Water from Nagarjunasagar will be released in a day or two,” he added.

Hinting that the district would get another 2.5 tmc ft of Krishna water in the second phase, he said “I have impressed upon Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Irrigation Minister D. Umamaheswara Rao to release another 2.5 tmc ft to Prakasam district to fill all drinking water storage tanks in the district.”

Veligonda project

Brushing aside criticism over Rs. 220 crore allocation for Veligonda project, he said the government would ensure completion of the project at any cost by March 2017 mobilising funds from various sources.

Rural Water Supply Department had put in place a toll-free number 1077 to reach out to people not getting adequate drinking water. “We will ensure drinking water to all at any cost.”

Meanwhile, civic officials said while the summer storage tank II in the city was empty, the storage was only 70 million litre in Summer Storage tank I. The present storage will be enough to supply water to the denizens only for one time.

It will take will take at least 15 days for Krishna water to reach the city as and when released from Nagarjunasagar.
