Electricity bills are giving a shock and sleepless nights to the people, Telugu Desam legislator P. Keshav said in Assembly on Monday.
Participating in a short discussion on the power situation in the State, he lashed out at the State government and said that lack of foresight, inefficiency and neglect of power sector had led to a power crisis and blamed successive Chief Ministers from the time of late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He said the situation was so bad that surgeries in hospitals had to be conducted under candle and torch lights.
He said that Congress had come to power in 2004 by promising to rollback the tariff and nine-hour free supply to agriculture. But, at present, not even four hours of power was being supplied.
Stating that thousands of industries were facing closure due to power shortage, he said industrialists too had started committing suicide and cited an instance that occurred in Qutbullapur. Accusing the government of burdening the people to the extent of Rs.31,000 crore, he demanded a rollback in tariff.
He also took a dig at Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy by observing that he knew how to get the power and limit the power of his rivals.
TRS member P. Srinivas Reddy said Telangana region was meted out injustice in generation and transmission of electricity and said that formation of a separate State alone was the solution to the problems. He faulted TDP for criticising the government but not supporting the no-trust motion recently.
