Poll code casts shadow on Sambaralu

January 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 01, 2016 09:24 pm IST - TIRUPATI:

As the model code of conduct came into force with the announcement of by-election to Tirupati Assembly constituency, there was a palpable disinterest over ‘Sankranti Sambaralu’ arranged at Shilparamam (Urban Haat) here on Tuesday.

When Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was scheduled to take part as the chief guest, along with the Singapore delegation, in the programme, drove straight from the airport to Tirumala .

The venue was tastefully decorated, with separate zones showcasing folk arts and craft works like Terracota earthenware, Kalamkari painting and Kondapalli toys. Artistes were roped in for the event. A campfire was also readied for the ‘Bhogi mantalu’. The event did go on, with the disenchanted artistes performing rather mechanically, with not many visitors around to cheer them up.

Media advisor Parakala Prabhakar took part in the inaugural. As visitor passes were issued to the delegates, many of who preferred to skip, there was not much crowd at the venue.
