Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Anantapur range) J. Prabhakar Rao on Thursday inaugurated the “Police Park” on the sprawling compound of Government District Headquarters Hospital here, to provide the much-required relaxation and serenity to the patients and staff. The project, which commenced six months ago with the involvement and contribution of the Chittoor police, was completed at a cost of ₹50 lakh. Apart from the recreation park, all the hospital lawns were developed with greenery.
Addressing a gathering of police personnel, medical and paramedical staff of the government hospital and Apollo Hospitals, Mr. Rao said the Police Park was a unique achievement of the Chittoor police, which amplified the theme of people-friendly policing, with focus on social service. “The park will provide an avenue to the patients and staff to overcome stress. Now, it is the duty of residents of Chittoor to protect the serenity and upkeep the park,” he said.
Superintendent of Police S.V. Rajasekhar Babu said the park would remain a monument in Chittoor. He said the police would strive to make Chittoor hospital a model for all units in the State. “We are happy that the police department has become an active participant in the development of the hospital. The Charity Wall wing in the hospital is catering to multiple requirements of over 200 patients every day. Hundreds of people from all over the district have come forward with liberal donation of clothes, blankets, dining plates and every item that would be useful to the poor and needy. This concept is slowly gaining among youth and students,” he said.
He said things had improved a lot in the hospital, and the patients were approaching the police seeking help for various problems. The hospital staff too were responding positively, he said.
The hospital authorities thanked the SP for arranging donations to the tune of several lakhs of rupees like airconditioners, ceiling fans, blankets and other important items.
