Plea to transfer powers to local bodies

MLC and president of AP Panchayat Raj Chamber Y.V.B. Rajendra Prasad called upon the government to transfer powers and grants due to the local bodies as per the provisions of the Constitution.

Addressing a conference of MPTC members here on Tuesday, he said the spirit of 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments were yet to percolate to grassroots level. As per the 11th schedule of the constitution, 29 items were to be delegated to Panchayat Raj institutions and according to 12th schedule 18 activities to municipal bodies.

Mr. Rajendra Prasad mooted a proposal of Rs. 5,000 as honorarium to sarpanches, ward members and MPTCs who were directly elected by people and Rs. 10,000 for ZPTC members, MPPs and corporators.
