Superintendent of Police G.V.G. Ashok Kumar on Friday said that the full force of law would be used on any land grabbers and persons involved in extra-judicial land settlements in the district.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Ashok Kumar said that the recent murder of a TDP leader – sixty-five-year-old Madanna – seemed to be a case in point. The murder seemed to be originating out of an extra-judicial land dispute settlement in which the party aggrieved by the settlement planned and executed the murder, he said.

“I have passed strict orders that the policemen at the ground level should not indulge in any kind of activity concerning civil disputes. This will be a major step in dealing with any such extra-judicial land dispute settlements, as none of the parties concerned will enjoy the patronage of the policemen and consequently rely on legally accepted methods to settle land disputes,” said Mr. Kumar.

On the other hand, he said that the district police was benchmarking various emergency responses of the police. “We are creating a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for emergency response to various kind of emergencies right from ragging to transport-related accidents to other crime emergencies,” he said.

Blue Colts patrol

“We have introduced Blue Colts police patrols in all the municipalities in the district where the response time is being calibrated to be within 10 minutes of a call to ‘100’ or a WhatsApp message. In villages, we are looking at a minimum response time of 30 minutes to a maximum of one hour,” he said. A record would be maintained for monitoring the emergency response plans.
