Thanks to increasing awareness on lifestyle diseases, more and more health-conscious people in the city are taking to meditation to get rid of stress and strain.
Meditation could relieve practitioners of stress and enable them do their daily activities more efficiently, says Ms Vijayalakshmi of the Universal Spiritual Foundation while talking to The Hindu .
“It is similar to charging our mobile phone every day. We need to recharge our body with positive energy to function efficiently be it studies or in workplace,” she said after an hour-long free training session on ‘Sushamna Nadi Meditation’ at the Tata Kalyana Mandapam here on Sunday. ‘There is no precondition like taking bath or performing pujas. One need to just stay in Yoga mudra and recite Om 21 times and take deep breathing 14 times each day for 49 minutes,’ she explained.
Bubbling with enthusiasm, a Congress functionary Ravula Padma who organised the event, said ‘initially, I did not have any interest in meditation. But now I am able to realise its benefits in the form of stress-free life. We planned to hold mass meditation session on every full moon day from now onwards.’
Prakasam district TB control officer Dr.T.Ramesh, one of the practitioners , says meditation can provide relief to those suffering from, among other disorders, high blood pressure, headaches, sleeplessness and ulcers.
