Minister for Secondary Education K. Parthasarathi was on Tuesday provided relief by the Metropolitan Sessions Court in a case related to violation of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) provisions as it stayed a lower court’s order till its judgment was delivered.
The Minister moved the sessions court on Monday requesting it to set aside the order of the Special Court for Economic Offences Cases and acquit him of all charges contending there was no wilful default on his part.
The lower court awarded him two months’ simple imprisonment and fine of Rs. 5.25 lakh for violation of FERA as the managing director of a private firm while importing machinery.
Filing of complaint
Meanwhile, Krishna district Collector Jyothi Buddha Prakash has been asked to verify if Minister K. Parthasarathi had suppressed details relating to the case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate, while filing the affidavit along with his nomination papers to contest 2009 Assembly elections.
If it was found during the verification of the affidavit that the Minister did not give details of the case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate for violation of FERA, the Collector would lodge a complaint with the concerned police station, facilitating booking of a case against the Minister in a court under Section 125 (A) of the Representation of Peoples Act.
