In a bid to improve medical services at all levels, the Andhra Pradesh government has made it compulsory for the doctors to serve in State-run hospitals for one year after completion of their post-graduate degree and diploma courses.
Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Medical Education Minister P. Sudarshan Reddy said that a GO was also issued giving all the details. The stipulation of government service would come into effect from the present admission year.
Honorarium
Accordingly, doctors who complete PG diploma and degree in 2012 and 2013 from government and private medical colleges would have to sign a bond and join government hospitals as senior residents.
They would be paid an honorarium of Rs. 20,000 in case of PG diploma holders, Rs. 23,000 to Rs. 25,000 for PG degree holders. In case of violation, a penalty of Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh would be imposed. These post-graduate doctors would be posted at Community Health Centres, Area Hospitals and District Hospitals on the basis of merit through counselling, he said. The doctors in non-clinical specialities would be posted in teaching hospitals.
The Medical Council of India permitted an additional intake of 250 post graduate students in government medical colleges in addition to the present intake of 1,050 students. The government also sanctioned nine nursing colleges — one government and eight private colleges — to offer specialised post-basic nursing training of two-year duration to address the dearth of nurses. Inspection of all nursing colleges in the State was on to ensure they had qualified faculty and facilities.
It was also decided to run diagnostic laboratories, radiology wings in government hospitals under Public Private Partnership model to improve quality of services to patients.
