A life convict was killed and three prisoners sustained critical wounds when another prisoner, D. Narsimha, attacked them with a pair of scissors inside Charlapally Central Prison here in the early hours of Wednesday.

Narsimha, who was serving seven year jail term after being convicted for killing his wife, was recently shifted from Nizamabad prison to Charlapally. He allegedly attacked other prisoners suddenly around 4 a.m. while they were asleep in Swarnamukhi barrack.

Venkataiah, a life convict, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to the Gandhi hospital along with Srinivas and Chalapathi around 6.40 a.m. While Venkataiah was declared brought dead, the other two were admitted for treatment.

Three hours later, another prisoner, Ooshaiah, was also admitted with injuries. “It is not yet known how Narsimha managed to secure the pair of scissors and what drove him to attack other prisoners,” the Alwal ACP, Ganesh Reddy, said. He maintained that he received information about the incident but the prison authorities were yet to lodge a formal complaint about it.

Meanwhile, the Home Minister, Sabitha Indra Reddy, directed the Director General of Prisons to order for an inquiry and extend best medical treatment to the injured prisoners to save their lives.
