One burnt alive and two injured as lorries collide

One person was burnt alive and two were injured as two lorries collided on the Tirupati-Chittoor highway, near Chandragiri, here on Thursday evening.

According to sources, the two vehicles, one carrying iron load and the other transporting carbonated beverages, were travelling from Visakhapatnam to Bengaluru and Bengaluru to Vijayawada respectively.

As per the preliminary investigation, police officials attributed the impact of the collision as one of the reasons for the fire.

Officials from fire department rushed to the spot and controlled the blaze. While the driver and cleaner of the lorry transporting carbonated beverages escaped by jumping from the vehicle cabin, the driver of the other vehicle was charred to death.

The duo sustained grievous injuries and were shifted to Ruia Hospital for treatment.

Identities of the victims and other details are yet to be ascertained.
