Have you heard of a hostel exclusively for cattle with all modern facilities? Yes, you heard it right. Tadikalapudi, an upland village under Kamavarapukota mandal in West Godavari district, will have a hostel for cattle very soon, under a pilot project sanctioned to the district, Animal Husbandry Department Joint Director Gyaneswara Rao has said.
Taking a leaf from the ‘Modi model’ for the dairy industry in Gujarat, the State government is all set to implement the pilot project.
The hostel meant for milch animals is expected to become functional from the second week of February.
The hostel will have sheds to accommodate 200 animals and Manavata, a non-profit organisation, has volunteered to run the facility by recovering the cost involving the accommodation of animals from their owners, Mr. Gyaneswara Rao said .
Explaining the details of the project, he said that the hostels would be equipped with a veterinary clinic with the state-of-the-art equipment to treat animals with irregular oestrous cycles, leading to fertility disorders.
Cattle suffering from fertility disorders has become a liability for farmers in the district as they hardly receive good returns, despite investing huge amounts on procuring the breeds and their feed. The project aims at keeping such animals under care of experts. Nutritious feed coupled with clinical intervention for restoration of oestrous cycles will be given to the animals, Mr. Gyaneswara Rao said.
