Returning officers in 10 districts of Telangana issued notification for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections paving way for filing of nominations from Wednesday.

With talks over alliances between key political parties not yet wrapped up even as the nominations phase has begun, only a small number of nominations were filed in various districts, mostly from Independents, on Wednesday.

According to the information furnished by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer here, four independents filed their nominations for Parliamentary constituencies- Adilabad (two nominations), Secunderabad-1 and Nalgonda-1.

Six candidates, all independents filed their nominations for six Assembly constituencies, one each for the Khairatabad, Banswada, Nizamabad (urban), Karimnagar, Sangareddy and Patancheru.

The last date of filing nominations for the 119 Assembly seats and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana is April 9. The pace of candidates filing nominations is expected to pick up once the political parties come to a final understanding on poll alliances.
