The Telangana Congress leaders have resolved that Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Raj Narasimha will submit a single roadmap on the statehood issue as sought by the high command.
They rejected AICC general secretary AP affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh’s request to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana and the Deputy Chief Minister that they come up with separate roadmaps for and against Telangana State when the Core Committee would invite them to appear before it.
At a meeting convened by Mr. Raj Narasimha on Sunday at the Ministers’ Club House, an overwhelming majority of Ministers and elected representatives said there was no need to submit two roadmaps. They were concerned that submission of two reports could dilute the efforts to pressure the Centre to announce separate Telangana. Mr. Damodar is expected to present the report. The Congress leaders maintained that the roadmap to be presented on their behalf would demand formation of Telangana comprising 10 districts including Hyderabad. It would not make any mention about the Rayala-Telangana proposal mooted by some sections.
The report, it is understood, would take note of the apprehensions among people from other regions settled in Hyderabad and other places. The over three-hour-long meeting attended by Panchayat Raj Minister K. Jana Reddy and five of his colleagues, MPs and legislators preferred to continue their consultations for few more days before the report was finalised. Deputy Chief Minister is said to be planning to take the assistance of subject experts to prepare the roadmap.
In a related development, T-JAC of People’s Organisation Gajjala Kantham and OUJAC leader Pidamarthy Ravi met the T-Congress leaders and submitted a memorandum. The two leaders said AICC president Sonia Gandhi has given them appointment on June 12.
