Special teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), using boats, supplied food packets to residents of waterlogged and marooned villages in Gudur revenue division here on Tuesday.
The NDRF teams had set out to undertake relief and rescue operations in the affected locations, especially at Manubolu, which suffered heavy damage following the overflowing of streams.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P. Narayana, District In-charge Minister Sidda Raghava Rao, District Collector M. Janaki and other senior officials inspected the damaged spot on NH-5 at Manubolu. Instructions were given to officials to coordinate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to get repair works done at the earliest.
Two helicopters have also been pressed into service for relief operations.
The Collector also declared holiday for all schools, junior and degree colleges on Wednesday.
Though rain stopped for some time during the day, there was drizzle throughout the day. With this, the temperatures dipped unusually below 20 degree centigrade.
