It was providential escape for 50 passengers of an RTC bus when it got stranded in the swollen Nallavagu near Alluru on Thursday.

The stream was in spate in the wake of incessant rains under the influence of cyclone named Nilam.

Local people and the police personnel acted quickly and rescued the passengers.

The bus got stranded mid-way as the driver of the bus, going from Chintala to Ongole, underestimated the current, police said. Vehicular traffic to Kothapatnam was disrupted owing to the swollen Nallavagu. Meanwhile, the APSRTC cancelled 40 bus services to various destinations in the district, particularly to the worst-affected Maddipadu, Ongole and N.G. Padu mandals.
