Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on instant triple talaq and asserted that it would curb the menace provided the victims mustered the courage to speak up against the humiliation suffered by them.

Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, Ms. Rajakumari said there were instances of Muslim men getting rid of their wives by divorcing them through instant triple talaq and marrying women of other religions. The women so divorced and their children had nowhere to go for justice in the absence of any concrete legislation.

Now that the apex court had pronounced its majority verdict against instant triple talaq, which ruined the lives of innumerable Muslim women, the situation would be far better, she said, and described the judgment as a victory for women of all faiths.

Ms. Rajakumari deplored the sexual abuse of minor girls, and said she was appalled with such incidents coming at a time when women were reaching the pinnacles of success in different spheres on a par with men.
