Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s proposed meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been put off to month-end. In a communication sent to the State Government on Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Office suggested fresh dates -- August 25, 28, 29 or 31 -- for the meeting.

The Chief Minister’s office had been asked to choose one of these days for the appointment and confirm, the PMO said.

The Chief Minister had sought an appointment with the Prime Minister between August 16 and 20 and a meeting was initially scheduled for August 20. The Chief Minister is reportedly planning to discuss a wide range of issues with Mr. Modi with special category status for Andhra Pradesh as the main item on the agenda.

Mr. Naidu, according to sources, had resolved to raise various other issues pertaining to the State including the incentives that were assured on the floor of Parliament at the time of passage of the AP Reorganisation Bill and the Centre’s help in the construction of the new capital Amaravathi.

The meeting assumed significance in the light of a campaign launched by the opposition parties including the YSR Congress, the Congress and the Left intensifying the movement in support of the special category status to the State.
