The YSR Congress has alleged that the TDP government was conspiring to keep the farm loan waiver promise in cold storage with the help of the Kotaiah Committee report.
Otherwise, how there would be huge difference in the quantum of outstanding debt of farmers in the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) report of June 30 and the Monday’s report of Kotaiah Committee, YSRC Deputy Floor Leader in the Assembly Jyothula Nehru sought to know. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said the SLBC report put the debt at Rs. 87,612 crore while it had come down to Rs. 72,000 crore in the Kotaiah Committee report.
The committee report appeared to be in tune with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s plan to deny loan waiver to farmers one way or the other, Mr. Nehru alleged. “The government has been looking for ways to escape the loan waiver on some pretext or the other, particularly by manipulating the Kotaiah Committee report”, he said.
Demanding the government to take steps immediately for arranging credit to farmers for the kharif season, the YSRC leader said there was no need to set up a committee as waiver of all agricultural loans was the main pre-poll promise of TDP and it was the first file Mr. Naidu has signed. “It is only an attempt to buy time and push the issue of loan waiver into cold storage”, he noted and urged the government to clear dues of SHG women and weavers along with farmers.
On the committee set up for the State capital, the YSRC leader alleged that Mr. Naidu has constituted the panel with an aim to swell the wealth of “his men”. “It appears to be a ruling party outfit and without any involvement of the public”, he said and demanded that all stakeholders including the main opposition party should be made partners in the building of new State capital.
